Euthanasia: For or Against it?

Euthanasia or mercy killing is the practice of ending a life painlessly and without any suffering. It has been a topic of debate since a long time. I read a report on the front page of Times of India, that the Supreme Court has admitted a plea to end a woman, Aruna Ramachandra Shanbaug’s life, who has been living a vegetative existence since the last 36 years. She was sexually assaulted and strangled with a dog chain when she was 25. The attack left her dumb, blind and paralysed since then.

Yes, I agree with the decision. No one deserves such a long suffering for no fault of theirs. We cannot even imagine how much the lady has suffered.

Coming back to the question, I believe that mercy killing should be legalised. When our pets are seriously ill, beyond medicinal help, we have them put to sleep. We do that because it is a humane and just thing to do. Why not for a human being?

Yes, there will be some fake cases in which someone would try to get someone killed for their own personal greed. But we can make sure that doesn’t happen by closing the loopholes in our system and making sure a strict background check is done for each case.

What do you think about it?

In my opinion, it should be legalized.
What is the use of spending money on a woman who is in coma and the doctors are not at all sure of her revival?

  2. Mayur says:

I dont think killing of your own pet is Euthanasia.

  3. Prateek says:

It is not. I am just comparing that if we can kill a really sick animal, why can’t we end the life of a very very sick human.

  4. Saandeep says:

Correct we can legalize it, but I doubt in India few people may take advantage of it.

  5. Prateek says:

Yes, they might but thats why we need to create stricter laws with as few loopholes as possible.
