What is Your Blood Group?
A strange ice breaker for most, but not if you are in Japan. Apparently, the Japanese have a fixation for blood. No, they are not the descendants of Dracula. It is just that they have some strange way of doing things, and nothing knocked me off more than their Blood Horoscopes. It is based on the fact that the behavior of a person is defined by the type of blood being by the heart.
During my final year study of engineering, I did realize that the Japanese have this strange fetish of trying to control and tabulate everything. More than half the techniques of Management, Production, Quality and Reliability have been developed by some Japanese guy.
With so many Japanese terms and names to learn, all we ended up doing was curse two people: The Japanese for trying to be a smart ass, and ourselves for pretending to be a smarter ass and choosing the Mechanical branch in the first place.
Blood Horoscopes, if you think about it, are a pretty nifty way to have a pre-decide how a person is going to be. Considering there are a few discrepancy amongst stars and constellations, and a few of them are sitting on the horoscope, demanding reservation. A Blood horoscope seems to be a simple and clean method. Unless, we discover later that there are more alphabets in it besides A,B and O.
The Japs are so fanatic about them, that from school to office teams, alliances to marriages. All are based on the basis of the blood group.
In Japan, blood type has influenced peoples lives in unexpected ways. For instance, some Japanese companies have planned departments around the blood types of their workforce. A baseball coach is reported to have used it in the selection of his teams.
During World War II, Japan’s Imperial Army is rumoured to have formed battle groups according to blood type, while a kindergarten has reportedly adapted its methods of teaching along the same lines. The class is split according to blood type, and then different teaching techniques are used depending on the group. It is also used extensively in dating services as a good indicator of potential matches.
And frankly speaking, I first noticed it, when I heard an Anime character asking another one whether he was Type A.
Anyway, to cut it short, there are four categories: A, B, O and AB. Apparently, the Japs don’t believe that +ve or -ve sign has a great significant on the behaviour of men and women. But I think it is my AB -ve blood group that lends me the art to be skeptic and act like such a smirking ass.
Coming back to the descriptions: (Source: Issendai)
Type A: People with blood type A have a deep-rooted strength that helps them stay calm in a crisis when everyone else is panicking. However, they tend to avoid confrontation, and feel very uncomfortable around people. A types are shy and sometimes withdrawn. They seek harmony and are very polite, but all the same feel that they never really fit in with others. A types are very responsible. If there is a job to be done, they prefer to take care of it themselves. These people crave success and are perfectionists. They are also very creative, and the most artistic of all the blood types, most likely because of their sensitivity
Usually the side characters in an Anime are type A. Compatible with A and AB
My Comment: A seems to be the type of person who will calmly grill a chicken leg, using the flames of his/her burning house, show an expressionless face, and will die of a heart attack 5 minutes later. The teacher’s pet, who always rose shyly whenever the teacher wanted help at carrying the books.
Type B: People with blood type B are the most practical of the blood groups. They are specialists in what they do. When they start a project, they spend extra time understanding and trying to follow directions than others might. When they are doing something, all of their attention is focused on it. They tend to stick to a goal and follow it through to the end, even if it seems impossible. They tend to be less than cooperative, as they like to follow their own rules and their own ideas. They are individualists. B type people pay attention to their thoughts a little more than their feelings, and therefore can sometimes seem cold and serious.
People with blood type B are often considered more relaxed, freewheeling, and unconventional than other types, although not necessarily to an unacceptable degree. In anime, the genki, off-the-wall types are type B, along with any kind of well-intended character who’s ruled by their impulses. Compatible with B and AB
My Comment: They are those irritating ones whose head you want to bash on the nearest wall. Who will even use a step by step guide to making love if available. The gossip mongers, they are the ones who have kept the Reality Shows alive.
Type O: People with blood type O people are outgoing, energetic and social. They are the most flexible of the blood types. They easily start up projects but often have trouble following through because they give up easily. They are flighty and not too dependable. O types always say what’s on their mind. They value the opinion of others and like to be the center of attention. Also, people with O blood are extremely self-confident. Large hearted, they spend on others generously..
Type O, the most “average” blood type, is considered the best type in Japan. Compatible with O and AB
My Comment: These are someones you want to have around. You can easily herd them into doing your will and they will still pay the bill happily at the restaurant. Typical soldiers, if you ask me.
Type AB: People with blood type AB are hard to categorize. They can have characteristics on both ends of the spectrum at the same time. For instance, they are both shy and outgoing. They easily switch from one opposite to another. AB people are trustworthy and responsible, but can’t handle it when too much is asked of them. They don’t mind doing favors or helping out, as long as its on their own conditions. People with this blood type are interested in art and metaphysics. They are considerate of other people’s feelings and deal with them with care and caution. On the other hand, though, they are strict with themselves and those close to them. They, therefore, seem to have two personalities: one for those “outside,” and another for people on the “inside.” They often become sentimental, and they tend to think too deeply about things. AB Types have a lot of friends, but they need time to be alone and think things through, as well.
AB is considered the worst blood type. In predictability-loving Japan, they’re loose cannons. They also like to set their own conditions and reserve the right to drop out when things don’t meet their expectations. They’re known to be sensitive and considerate—at times—but it just isn’t enough to balance out the flaws in this blood type. For a while, some companies tried dividing their employees into work groups based on blood type, and no one wanted to work with the AB group. Anime villains are likely to be type AB.
Compatible with A, B, O and AB
My Comment: Now after already being described as the worst type, I don’t know what to say about myself (I am AB as I have mentioned above). But anyway, an AB sounds like a person with a Multiple Personality Disorder and in no way should be allowed to roam freely without a leash. Better suited in a Psychiatric Hospital. But be safe, there are not many ABs in the world. We are the rarest blood. Best suited profession would be that of a street walker, since AB are compatible with one and all. They don’t care who comes in.
Other than that, I also read that different civilizations have used different methods to categorize people. For more details on all such categorization, check out this link: http://www.funatikel.com/whatis.html Think of it as a lesson on the cultural beliefs of different cultures.
